The Joy of Sports Foundation
The goal of JSF is to expand and enhance athletic opportunities and experiences for all youth in Derry Township to get them playing and to keep them playing!
Research shows that 62% of kids drop out of organized athletics by age 13.
Some drop due to financial or time constraints, but most stop playing because it
just isn’t fun anymore. When they quit, they lose the opportunity to experience the many physical, social and developmental benefits that are gained by participation
in youth sports.
JSF will seek to accomplish this mission by striving to:
- Identify and promote policies and practices to help increase the quantity and enhance the quality of athletic opportunities and experiences for Derry Township youth through age 18.
- Support education and training opportunities for sports leaders, coaches, athletes and parents to improve the athletic experiences for all concerned.
- Promote and sponsor recognition activities to acknowledge sports leaders, athletes, coaches and parents who significantly contribute to the maintenance, expansion and/or creation of quality athletic opportunities for Derry Township youth.
- Foster and support collaboration and coordination among Derry Township athletic organizations to facilitate information exchange around the issues of organizational efficiency and model programming.
